The curtain came down on the 2019 season as the Eagles fell to North Davie in the season finale, 10-0. Pitching and defense kept Summit in it through the middle innings, but the Eagles simply couldn't make enough contact or muster enough base runners to challenge the talented Tiger squad. Isabella's bat stayed hot with a pair of base hits, and Leila added another for the Eagles, who stranded 6 base runners. Defensively, Reese had a busy day at first base, recording 9 putouts as Maddie, Leila, Lily, and Jess all recorded multiple assists. Maddie ended the 4th inning with a sensational play, ranging behind second base to snag a sharply hit ground ball and throwing to Reese to just beat the runner. Leila was a warrior in the circle, pitching for the fifth consecutive day and battling the Tiger hitters with every pitch. In six innings, Leila surrendered 10 hits and struck out 3. While today's result was disappointing, it in no way diminishes the fantastic season the girls have had. The Eagles finish the season with a sparkling 9-3 record and look forward to the team party at Dairi-O on Thursday. Thanks for a great season. Go Eagles!
Strike up the band. Summit made it eight in a row Monday afternoon as they soared past NC Leadership Academy, 17-2. Playing in front of a packed house in their home finale, Summit started fast and never looked back, scoring 5 in the first inning and 8 more in the second to build a commanding 13-1 lead. Lily and Leila scored three times each to pace the Summit attack, while Maddie added a pair of base hits and drove in two Eagles. Isabella was a rock behind the plate; she also added 2 RBIs, giving her 25 on the season: this is believed to be the most for a Summit player in a single season since the Nixon administration. The scoring was capped off with a two-run single from Jess in her final at-bat on the home diamond. Lily highlighted another solid performance by the Summit infield by snaring a hot ground ball and tagging out a runner trying to advance to third. Jess made several plays at second base, and Reese returned from New Zealand to record 5 putouts at first. Leila earned the win with another superb outing, fanning 6 while allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk. Like every win this year, today's result was a complete team effort. Everybody is a somebody on the softball team and these girls have soared to unprecedented heights in 2019. A special thank you to Coach Shaw for setting up the sound system for today's game and to Coach Felten for playing the walk-up music. Scoring today for the Eagles were Lily (3), Maddie (2), Leila (3), Isabella (2), Quinn (1), Jess (2), Reese (2), Sarah (1), Lauren (1). The Eagles play their final game Tuesday at North Davie. Go Eagles!
If you haven’t jumped on the Summit Softball bandwagon, now is the time. The Eagles won their 7th in a row and moved to 8-2 Friday with a win over NC Leadership Academy. After surrendering a run in the top of the first, the Eagles rallied for 11 runs with two outs in the bottom of the inning to take command. Every batter in the Eagle line-up reached base and crossed home at least once. Quinn had a career day at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a home run, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Lily added 3 runs, Isabella 3 RBIs and Rae drew 3 walks. The wildest play of the day was turned in by Lauren, who reached first on a dropped third strike and then raced around the bases on an errant throw to score her first run as an Eagle. Leila turned in her most economical performance on the season, needing just 47 pitches to earn the win. Leila struck out 7 and walked none. Scoring for the Eagles today were Lilly (3), Maddie (2), Leila (2), Isabella (2), Quinn (3), Jess (2), Rae (2) Sarah (1), and Lauren (2). Summit faces NC Leadership again Monday afternoon in their final home game of the season. We'd love to see you there. Go Eagles!
Onward and upward! The red hot Eagles made it six in a row Wednesday afternoon as they rallied from an early 3 run deficit to soar past South Davie, 12-5. Summit batters drew nine walks and used aggressive base running to build a 6-3 lead midway through the game. Then, the bats got hot with Leila and Isabella swinging the heavy lumber. Leila drove in 2 runs, with a pair of doubles, as Summit surged ahead 9-3. South Davie countered with 2 runs in the top of the 5th, but Isabella answered with a two-run triple in the bottom of the 6th to give the Eagles their biggest lead of the day. Leila tossed an absolute masterpiece to earn the win, striking out 11 and walking only one. In seven innings of work, Leila faced just 28 batters and retired the last 6 in order to end the game. Jess led a solid defensive effort from the Eagle infield, covering the right side like a blanket and recording all three outs in the top of the 7th. Maddie and Lily gobbled up every ground ball hit to the left side of the infield and Quinn was a rock at 1st base, recording 7 put-outs. Scoring for the Eagles today were Lily (2), Maddie (3), Leila (3), Isabella (2), Jess, and Rae. Summit now stands 7-2 on the season and will host NC Leadership Academy on Friday!
