The Varsity Golf Team went to a rainy, wet Tanglewood Champions Course to play in the Tarheel Invitational high school tournament. The Eagles battled tough conditions throughout the round and posted a team total of 331 to finish in the middle of the fifteen team field. Matt continued his impressive play and Preston played steady golf to lead the team in scoring with matching 79’s. Will followed with an 81, Hayden shot 85 and Ford had an 86. The Eagles will play their next match Thursday back at Tanglewood.
Summit went on the road to play a high school match on Thursday and shot 160 to finish 3rd out of the 6 teams participating. All in all, it was a good showing for the Eagles. Overcoming some nerves and tension early, the team persevered throughout the round to post a solid team score. Will led the way with a 39. Thomas and Preston both shot 40. Matt finished with a 41, Hayden 42 and Ford 43. The Eagles play again Friday at the Forsyth Invitational at Tanglewood.
The Summit Eagles Golf Team played their first home match on a sunny afternoon and defeated Davidson Day School by a score of 156-171. The Eagles day was highlighted by four players posting scores of 39. Matt and Ford were first to the clubhouse with matching 39’s. Thomas had a chance to be the medalist on the final hole, but his short putt wouldn’t fall and he also carded 39. Preston made par on his final three holes to match his teammates total. Will ended his afternoon with a 41 and Hayden shot 42. The Eagles moved to 2-0 on the season and will play again Thursday afternoon.
The Summit Varsity Golf Team played their first match of the season on a cold, windy afternoon at Salem Glen and defeated West Forsyth 156-160. Our six golfers played their rounds within 6 shots of each other. Matt led the way and took medalist honors for the Eagles with a score of 37. An opening double bogey was offset by two strong follow up birdies. Will scored par on his first six holes and shot 38. Thomas followed with a 40. Preston and Ford both carded a 41 and Hayden shot 43. The Eagles are 1-0 on the season and will play again Thursday afternoon at Greensboro Country Club.
