Upper School Intersession February 2018

A series of after school classes for Upper School students between sports seasons

Classes begin February 12 and meet from 3:30-5 pm


Classes

Archery Tag
6th, 7th, 8th & 9th Graders
Monday, Feb 12, 3:30-5 pm, $30
Thursday, Feb 15, 3:30-5 pm, $30
Thursday, Feb 22, 3:30-5 pm, $30

    • Taught by Nathaniel Ward, nathaniel.ward@summitmail.org
    • Similar to dodgeball and paintball using Archery Tag bows and foam-tipped arrows
    • Sign up for one, two or three classes
    • First time in Upper School, previously offered only in Summit Summer and Afternoon Academy
    • Two teams play on a field complete with barriers and separated by a "safe zone”
    • Safety precautions include training, foam tipped arrows, facemasks and bows designed to limit velocity
    • All equipment provided and all levels welcome
    • Snack included
    • Students will meet their teacher at the covered snack area outside the Hopkins Theatre
    • After class, students may be picked up in front of the school or go to Afterschool.
    • Dress for the weather.


Bookbinding & Paper Marbling Workshop
6th, 7th, 8th & 9th Graders, 3:30-5 pm, $140
Feb 12, 13, 14, 15 & 21

    • Taught by Betsy McNeer, bmcneer@summitmail.org and Katherine Mahler, kmahler@summitmail.org
    • Make your own books and journals
    • Learn traditional bookbinding methods such as accordion folding and pamphlet stitching
    • Create marbled papers and paste papers to use in embellishing your book
    • All supplies and snack included in fee
    • Students will meet their teachers at the covered snack area outside the Hopkins Theatre
    • After class, students may be picked up in front of the school or go to Afterschool.


Pottery
6th, 7th, 8th & 9th Graders, 3:30-5 pm, $160
February 13, 14, 15, 21 and 22

    • Taught by Elizabeth Wild, ewild@summitmail.org
    • Open to experienced and novice artists
    • Bring an idea and we will make it happen
    • make something really special or just improve your skills
    • wheel throwing, hand-building projects of your choice
    • All supplies and snack included in fee
    • Clay + Glaze + YOU = creative ceramics
    • Students will meet their teacher at the covered snack area outside the Hopkins Theatre
    • After class, students may be picked up in front of the school or go to Afterschool.

Registration & Payment

Registration

  • Registration will open on Summit's Active.com site on the following schedule:
    • January 26 for families with a student currently enrolled at Summit School
    • January 28 for all other families
  • Registration closes on February 11.
  • All classes have enrollment limits and may fill quickly.


Payment

  • Registration is completed through our Active.com site and requires a debit or credit card.
  • Full payment is required at the time of registration.
  • Each class fee includes a non-refundable registration fee of 10% of the total class fee.
  • AF AC charges are separate from regular Summit School accounts. Contact the Co-Curricular Program Office at 336 722-2777 if you have any payment questions or need paperwork for taxes.
  • All offerings are contingent upon adequate enrollment. Should a class be canceled, Summit will extend a full refund or credit toward another class.

Policies & Procedures

Snack
Summit will provide a snack for each class.


Withdrawal and Refund Policy

  • To remove a child from a class, the parent or guardian should request the change in writing by email to Jeff Turner at jturner@summitmail.org.
  • If no such request is made, parents are responsible for the total fee whether a child attends class or not.
  • Refunds are prorated based on number of classes and administrative costs. Summit retains 10% of total cost per class as a non-refundable registration fee. There are no refunds after the second class.
  • Payments are not transferable to siblings, other children, or other accounts.
  • Refunds, discounts, or make-ups are not given for participant absences.


Waitlists

  • All classes have enrollment limits. This provides an optimal teacher-student ratio.
  • Our online registration system will designate full classes with a grey “Waitlist” button. Click the button to register for the waitlist.
  • There is no payment required for waitlists. There is no obligation to accept a spot if it opens.
  • If a spot opens, the first person on the list will be given the opportunity to register. Contact will be made by phone or email. Those remaining on the list will be called if there is room.


Make-up Classes

  • Summit reschedules classes from time to time due to teacher illness or other circumstances. Communication about canceled classes occurs by email using the email addresses provided during registration. For late cancellations, phone numbers may be used for a group text.
  • We make every effort to make up missed classes caused by Summit or the instructor. In such cases Summit may add time to a class, add a class to the schedule, or refund a portion of the class fee.
  • If a class is canceled due to inclement weather, make up classes are not guaranteed and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Make-ups are not given if a participant misses a class.
