Arts In Early Childhood
At Summit, the arts are not enrichment — they are essential education.
Music, visual art, and play are woven into the rhythm of every day in our Early Childhood program, because we believe that making, moving, and creating are among the most powerful ways young children learn to think, communicate, and discover who they are. When a Kindergartner keeps a steady beat, interprets a painting, or loses herself in imaginative play, they are not taking a break from learning — they are doing some of the most important learning of their life.
Our Early Childhood students have music twice a week, where they sing, move, explore instruments, and develop music literacy through a repertoire that connects them to the wider world. Visual art and play are integrated throughout the classroom experience, inviting children to observe closely, make choices, take creative risks, and reflect on what they've made. Across all of these experiences, our educators hold joy as the first learning objective — the foundation upon which confidence, curiosity, and skill are built.
The arts also do something no worksheet can: they give every child a voice that matters.
Whether performing in the Spring Sing for the first time or collaborating with classmates on a shared creation, our youngest learners discover that their ideas are worth expressing and their contributions shape the community around them. That is not just good arts education — it is the Summit approach to educating the whole child.
