Tuition and Affordabilty

Financial aid at Summit School is determined by the Financial Aid Committee using a completed Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) from the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). The SSS uses a standardized calculation that considers various factors to determine your family's contribution to educational expenses. These factors include gross taxable and non-taxable income, assets, liabilities, family size, and the number of students in tuition-charging schools or colleges. After accounting for basic necessities and required taxes, the remaining funds are considered available for education on a sliding scale. It's important to note that Summit financial aid is need-based only, and the awards are direct grants that do not need to be repaid. These grants are not intended to cover 100% of the cost of attendance and are available for families with students in grades JrK-9th.

Summit School expects both parents, even if separated or divorced, to contribute to the educational costs of their children to the full extent of their financial ability. The school is not bound by any legal agreements that excuse a parent from this financial responsibility. If a custodial parent has had no contact with the non-custodial parent for the past two years, a letter of confirmation from a third party (such as a lawyer or minister) addressed to the Financial Aid Committee is required. If you are unable to provide such information due to differing circumstances, you are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office.

For families currently enrolled at Summit School, you should notify Carter Sturkie, Director of Finance and Operations, if you intend to apply for financial aid. The financial aid process is separate from the admission process and involves an online application through the SSS system, which typically opens on November 1 for the following school year. Financial aid awards are granted only after a student has been accepted to the school.

All families are expected to reapply for financial aid every year.
