“Have you seen my monkey,” quizzed The Man with the Yellow
Hat to the squeals of junior kindergartners. The character from the beloved Curious George books sprang
to life and was recently spotted stopping by kindergarten classrooms to read a
story and search for his mischievous missing monkey, George. “I am so proud of
you,” he said to the children. “I keep hearing lots of good news about all of
the ways you and your parents are supporting Summit.”
His surprise visits were one of a series of classroom treats
planned across the School in celebration of this fall’s successful Parents’
Annual Fund campaign. The total of $249,471 raised represented a 19% increase
over the goal, with over 28% of families increasing their gifts from last year.
In another exciting turn, 34 families upped their pledges to become members of
the “Bridge the Gap Team,” a giving level which represents the $2,185 “gap”
between the cost of a Summit education and the tuition charged.
Parent Brad Davis provided Domino Pizza for the Upper School
and Blue Ridge Ice Cream parties were held for Lower School students.
“It was such a pleasure to work with these amazing
volunteers,” said Parents’ Annual Fund Chairs Charlotte and David Broughton.
“Thank you to everyone for their generous gifts of time and money that impact
every Summit student everyday.”
