Student Support
Summit School's Student Support Services are uniquely designed to assist all students in reaching their academic potential. The program provides early intervention and prevention. Learning Specialists, specially trained teachers, work closely with the students, teachers and parents to support each student's learning style. Individual Learning Profiles are created to identify the students' strengths, challenges, and to provide strategies and accommodations to be used in the classroom. Featured services include academic reinforcement, academic enrichment and acceleration, tutoring, assessments, and small group instruction. In addition, Summit offers small language arts classes in 1st through 5th grade. The focus of these small classes is to strengthen students' phonemic awareness, reading skills, spelling and written expression using a multisensory phonetic approach based on the research and principles of the Orton-Gillingham method. In the Upper School, students are offered a comprehensive Study Skills program. The program promotes self-awareness, demystifies the learning process, and models learning-to-learn strategies for adolescents.
Ultimately, Summit's goal is for all students to become confident and independent learners.
