Academic Life

Academics have been the foundation of students' experiences at Summit since the school began in 1933. Through the innovative efforts of faculty-past and present-and an abiding belief in children and all that they can do, Summit nurtures scholarship at its best. Summit teachers provide a fertile learning environment in which children develop skills in reading, writing, social studies, math, science, world languages, the arts, athletics, and technology. They also develop the facility to apply these skills in ever-broadening ways.

Summit graduates demonstrate a strong foundation in academics and also in the attitudes and habits of mind needed in the 21st century. Effective participation and purpose in the future depend on the core competencies evident in Summit graduates. Our graduates are guided by character, confidence and competence; they think both critically and creatively; they are globally aware; they work collaboratively; and they commit to civic responsibility, service and stewardship.
